A year of birthstones
A birthstone is a gemstone that represents a person’s month of birth.
The first century Jewish historian Josephus believed there was a connection between the twelve stones in the high priest’s breastplate (as described in the Book of Exodus) the twelve months of the year, and the twelve signs of the zodiac.
Birthstones are often worn as jewellery, so Britain’s National Association of Goldsmiths created their own standardized list of birthstones in 1937.
Biba & Rose birthstone pendants are an affordable alternative, using a real pearl for June and genuine turquoise for the month of December, but using Swarovski crystal gemstones in the place of some of the more expensive stones such as diamond and sapphire.
These pieces of jewellery make a lovely gift for a new baby, a Christening gift or a birthday or Christmas present.
Each pendant has birthstone for the month, together with a tiny sterling silver star.
